The radius of the blast is approximately 20m or 66ft. An explosion this size can kill up to 400 fish not including other organisms. Any reefs near the blast radius are eradicated along with whatever is living amongst them. Tanzania alone has a great amount of dynamite fishing occurring along its coast. The eradication of the coral reefs mean that they are no longer providing a safe haven and food resource for the aquatic marine life that thrives in the reef. Up to 25% of all marine species thrive in these coral reefs and will soon be extinct in these waters. Dynamite fishing targets all the other surrounding fauna, flora and marine species. Reconstruction of the damaged habitats in coral reefs can take decades.
